Roxy, once a hopeful puppy adopted from the Valley Animal Center in Fresno, California, found herself back at the shelter’s doorstep a year later, her dreams of a forever home shattered. Now, after more than 380 days of waiting, Roxy still awaits a second chance at happiness.

Born in the care of the shelter to her mother Nera, Roxy quickly became a favorite among visitors. However, her return to the shelter was marked by struggles. Accustomed to open spaces, Roxy found it challenging to adjust to kennel life again. Despite efforts to improve her situation with park visits and enrichment activities, Roxy longs for the freedom and companionship of a loving home.

Yet, being an adult dog diminishes Roxy’s chances of adoption. Statistics reveal that adult dogs like her face steeper odds in finding homes compared to their puppy counterparts. Still, Roxy possesses all the qualities of an ideal companion, as affirmed by Ruben Whitney-Cantu, an adoption supervisor at the shelter.

Roxy’s ideal family would be active and patient, willing to work with her on her social skills. Although she may struggle with other animals, Whitney-Cantu believes in Roxy’s potential to thrive in the right environment.

To those considering adoption, Whitney-Cantu urges them to meet Roxy in person. Her affectionate nature and winning smile make her irresistible. With the right guidance and love, Roxy promises to be the perfect canine companion for someone willing to give her the chance she deserves. Find her on the Valley Animal Center website.
