Meisha, a six-year-old Chow Chow from Alberta, Canada, recently made headlines for her heartwarming return to doggy daycare after losing both of her eyes. Meisha’s parent, Jessica Hamel, shared the inspiring journey on her TikTok page @meishatheprettygirl, where the video has garnered over 500,000 views and 20,000 likes.
Meisha’s ordeal began when Hamel noticed redness in her eyes earlier this year, leading to a veterinary visit for what was initially suspected to be an eye infection. However, as the situation unfolded, it became evident that Meisha was facing more severe health complications. Diagnosed with glaucoma, her left eye lost vision, and in a tragic turn of events, she went completely blind in September.

The decision to remove both eyes in a single procedure was not an easy one for Hamel. A setback emerged when Meisha’s surgery was delayed due to a low white blood cell count, requiring a week of steroid treatment to reduce the risk of bleeding during the operation. Eventually, both eyes were removed to spare Meisha further suffering.
The recovery period was challenging for both Meisha and her dedicated parent. Hamel adjusted their home environment to ensure Meisha’s safety, accompanying her on short walks and providing comfort during the difficult initial nights. Despite the hurdles, Meisha displayed remarkable resilience, regaining her smile within five days post-surgery.
Remarkably adapting to her new life without vision, Meisha surprised her owner with her navigation skills around the house and during walks. Hamel humorously remarked, “Honestly, I think she’s faking this blindness thing because everything is pretty much normal.” The only noticeable change, aside from her lack of interest in car window views, was Meisha’s ability to navigate her surroundings with surprising ease.
The most heartening moment came weeks after the surgery when Meisha returned to her beloved doggy daycare center. The TikTok video captures the sheer joy on Meisha’s face as she reunites with daycare staff and canine friends, showcasing her resilience and the unwavering bond between pets and their owners.
