At-Home Stretches for Dementia Sufferers Really Help! – GWC Mag

These At-Home Stretches for Dementia Sufferers Make Everyone Happier!

If you care for a loved one who suffers from Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia, you already know how difficult it is.

That’s why I was delighted to find a wonderful set of easy-to-use stretches and exercises that can be fun.

But best of all, these exercises improve the abilities – and the quality of life – for many seniors around the world. It’s a proven system – it just works!

It’s been shown to improve brain power (cognitive function), reduce depression, improve balance, and improve ability to perform everyday tasks.

It’s called the Love to Move program – and it’s absolutely free!

How It Happened

Experts in Japan created chair-based dementia exercise programs to improve the lives of care home residents who had dementia.

The results were so positive that the program won full state funding and is now used in every care home across Japan!

The British Gymnastics Foundation (BGF) was so inspired by the Japanese program’s success that they worked with the program leaders to design UK-based programs using those same principles.

And their pilot program showed amazing results in seniors with dementia:

  • 71% of participants had noticeable physical improvements
  • 86% were socializing more with other residents and staff
  • 93% seemed happier and more settled
  • 100% were easier to connect with

Wow!

Why These At-Home Stretches for Dementia Sufferers Work

The Love to Move program is based on the concept of performing different movements with the right and left sides of the body at the same time – this takes quite a lot of concentration!

Because the brain has to work hard to perform these simple activities, both the left and right sides of the brain are used and this improves brain function.

The result?

The Love to Move exercise program has increased seniors’ ability to perform everyday tasks like feeding themselves, engaging in activities, and communicating with family and friends.

Coordination and ability to sit unassisted in a chair was also improved.

How to Get Started

BGF has created free online video sessions of their dementia exercise program.

Start with the introduction video, and get links to all 4 sessions here https://britishgymnasticsfoundation.org/lovetomove/

They also created a free booklet that you can download here with 4 essential home exercises from the Love to Move program so older adults everywhere can benefit from this program.

It includes straightforward instructions, example photos, and special tips on how to make the exercises easier and more effective.

Print or save the booklet and give these exercises a try with your older adult.
