When Klaus the Dachshund noticed his human get up, he followed him to the kitchen. According to the caption on the TikTok video, Klaus was likely “hoping for a lil snacky snack”. However, his human had noise-canceling headphones on and did not notice that the pup had snuck into the room behind him. So, when he left, he didn’t check to see if Klaus had followed him. Instead, he turned off the light and shut the door behind him. The Dachshund’s reaction is devastating.

The home security system switches into night mode, and Klaus can be seen staring at the door in confusion. Instead of barking, the pup simply wanders around the kitchen. Eventually, his humans noticed that Klaus was not snoozing under a blanket as they thought. Quickly, they let the dog out of the kitchen and plied him with treats to make up for the mishap.

Text overlay on the video reads “heartbreaking”, a sentiment that many of the video’s viewers echoed after seeing the Dachshund’s reaction to being trapped in the dark. “I could cry real tears over this. He didn’t understand why” wrote Alicia McClellion. Another TikTok user wrote, “Just going to cry myself to sleep thanks”.
