At the heart of Chasing Niflheim lies the first descent of the southwest couloir of Mount Niflheim, the third-highest peak in B.C.’s towering Gold Range. Christina ‘Lusti’ Lustenberger and Andrew McNab venture into the rugged terrain of the Monashee massif, where they discover a deep (and barely navigable) gouge through the jagged, windswept 2800-metre summit. This improbable line provides the perfect backdrop for their vert-fuelled—and many would say foolhardy—adventure. “The way you move through the mountains is an expression of who you are and how you feel in that moment,” said Lusti. “Discovering your authentic imagination is the biggest gift in exploratory skiing and mastery in the mountains.” Producer Flo Bastien admired Lusti’s ski-mountaineering prowess: “Christina is undoubtedly one of the best big mountain skiers out there.
