The electronic health record has transformed patient data collection, but it’s also created a documentation burden that is leading to clinician burnout. Clinicians are often left to collect data without understanding its purpose.
To mitigate the situation, healthcare organizations are adopting solutions such as artificial intelligence to automate notetaking and free clinicians to spend more time face to face with patients. Governance and interoperability initiatives are other ways organizations are optimizing their EHRs.
