Flaxta’s all-mountain Deep Space Mips helmet offers seriously advanced comfort and performance. As with any good piece of gear, this helmet performs thanks to the sum of its well-designed parts.

The Deep Space helmet has been designed with a holistic approach to protection and comfort. The approach is based on the Swedish brand Flaxta’s AVA concept, short for Absorb, Vent, and Adapt. Mips technology is a major component of this concept.
Originally developed by a brain surgeon and a biomechanics scientist, the Mips Safety System includes a low-friction layer, designed to move slightly in the event of an impact to help redirect rotational motion away from the head.

Additionally, the Deep Space helmet core, made from 100% recycled EPS, is engineered for density, allowing for a slim profile while securing the highest level of protection. The hybrid shell construction, combining an in-mold technology with a bombproof ABS shell, optimizes weight and structural stability.
The integrated Primaloft Gold insulation offers added warmth on colder days (and this extra layer means you don’t need to rely as much on wearing a beanie) while Flaxta’s unique FoamFit liner adapts to the shape of the head for an instantly personalized fit.

Ventilation

We’d never before tried a helmet with integrated goggle ventilation, and it actually works. The vents are on the front edge of the helmet and will line up with your goggle vents (they will work best with Flaxta goggles but will work with any goggles that have top vents). With the variability of effectiveness of anti-fog lens coating when conditions are extreme, this passive venting system is a simple and surefire way to stay as fog-free as possible. Plus: the vents are on the top and bottom of the helmet front, which means they work when you’re wearing your goggles, and when your goggles are up on your helmet. The Deep Space helmet also has adjustable top vents and rear vents.

Plus, the Flaxta ID concept allows you to customize your Deep Space helmet with their design accessories‚ namely, a variety of silicone goggle clips and hardshell tops to redesign your colorway. Each accessory can be swapped out in a matter of seconds, giving you the flexibility to change up your look whenever you want. But we’re not fully stoked on this option, as it creates non-essential plastic that will ultimately end up in landfill or worse. However, we applaud Flaxta for at least offering a recycled EPS helmet core.
Flaxta Episode Goggle
The Episode goggle redefines optical clarity with a spherical double lens by ZEISS. The lens incorporates Enlight optical technology, meticulously filtering visual information to enhance contrast, offering precision and clarity.

If you want more than one lens, swapping is smooth as butter—the magnetic contact points guide the lens into place, so you can change it in seconds. And the Episode’s adaptive frame construction and 3-layer thermo-shaped face foam deliver a personalized fit.
Designed to enhance vision in all snow-affected light conditions, the Enlight lens blocks out the light spectrum that creates flat light, and instead lets in safe levels of the blue light spectrum to enhance contrast in snow. The result is heightened visual detail and clarity in your terrain, all while providing full UV protection.

With anti-fog and anti-scratch coatings, the Episode is more than ready for the longest days in the most unpredictable conditions.
All-Around Lens

You can buy an additional lens if you like (for night-skiing, for example) but the Gold Mirror lens we tried with the Episode is a very good all-arounder. Using one lens in any weather condition has benefits. The eye is sensitive to changes in light and switching between different tints and VLT (Visible Light Transmission) can put unnecessary strain on the eye. By having one lens that works in any condition, you can allow your eye to comfortably adjust to the changing environment.

Flaxta Behold Back Protector Vest
Traditional back protectors can be hot and bulky. By contrast, Flaxta’s Behold is the most ventilated, flexible and low-profile back-protector vest on the market.

The design incorporates Flaxta’s AVA protection system (Absorb, Vent, and Adapt) and is the ideal choice for skiers/riders who demand freedom of movement. You’ll barely notice you’re wearing a back protector. It’s made of Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR), a viscoelastic polymer. That means it bends with your body, but when it takes an impact it simultaneously stiffens and deforms, spreading out (and absorbing) the impact.

Certified according to EN 1621-2, Level 1 (European) safety standards, you can trust that Flaxta has met the highest bar for shredders who like to shred a little harder.

We haven’t taken a big fall yet so we can’t speak to the Behold’s total effectiveness as a back protector but we will say that it is very lightweight and breathable. It doesn’t feel like wearing armour. It feels like a vest.
