Below, we have established an easy guide to using essential oils during your pregnancy. 

Diffusers

Diffusing essential oils remains the most common and effective technique to relish the benefits of aromatherapy. An ultrasonic diffuser is today’s most used type of diffuser for essential oils. It uses water and ultrasonic waves to diffuse essential oils into the air.

Ultrasonic diffusers are available in a range of prices, sizes, and shapes. Below is a detailed procedure of using an essential oils diffuser:

Choose an open area in a room with a tabletop or solid surface with an outlet to plug to. Because you will be using water, placement on a wood surface would be necessary. Caution: Avoid direct sunlight with the diffuser, or placing it close to a fan.

Use water (clean) at room temperature to fill the diffuser water tank to the water reservoir’s full line. If you overfill, your aroma diffuser won’t function well.

You can either add three to ten drops of a single essential oil or a blend into your water.

Set features according to your make and model options, and enjoy the perfect scent! 

Features depend on the model you decide to purchase, with some offering options to set how long you want your diffuser to be on. With some, you can even set different time cycles (how long to turn off when in use).

Spritzers

Spritzers refer to essential oils that have been diluted in water in a bottle with an atomizer cap. This atomizer cap creates a fine mist of oils and water for both room and body mists. To shield the essential oils from direct light, we suggest the use of a tainted glass bottle. Still, some essential oils can cause plastic bottles to break after extended contact.

Aluminum bottles are also recommended for spritzers. If you use plastic PET bottles, ensure that you replace them regularly, and so should the atomizers. Atomizers are not water-soluble. This means that essential oils can accumulate in the spritzer cap and eventually block the opening. Remember that the time frame depends on the amount of oil you use and the type of bottle.

A spritzer can be used on your body and as a perfume spray in clothing. It can also be used as an aromatherapy app on the go. A pregnant mother experiencing respiratory irritation or congestion can breathe in Eucalyptus and Peppermint benefits by placing it on the chest area.

If you use a spritzer on your skin, add one tablespoon of fractionated coconut oil for prolonged effects. The coconut oils bind with the molecules of the essential oils to prevent rapid evaporation. Unlike many carrier oils, Fractionated Coconut Oil doesn’t clog on the tube. Do not use spritzers with carrier oils on clothing, for they might stain the cloth.

Spritzers can also be used as cleaning sprays and room fresheners. Ensure the mixture is sprayed high into the air for a prolonged effect.

Bathing Salts

Nothing feels better than sitting in a warm bath after a tiresome day. When you add essential oils to your bath, it even makes it more scrumptious. However, before you make your blends, there should be some safety precautions.

The body needs an appropriate magnesium level to function suitably in regulating the hundreds of enzymes in them. According to studies, magnesium can be a remedy for insomnia. Epsom salts (used in a bath) can help increase magnesium levels in a pregnant mom.

Topical Application

Sometimes a massage is just what the doctor ordered. Especially when your during the third trimester and your feet and ankles are swollen beyond recognition!

Before you apply any essential oils to your skin, be sure to add the essential oils to a teaspoon of carrier oil to protect your skin from sensitivities.

Avoid essential oils such as peppermint, as it may cause skin irritation. 

Other Uses

Other uses of essential oils include myrrh and frankincense for strengthening your nail’s cuticles and Aloe Vera or Chamomile for soothing sunburned skin.

Oils from cinnamon and peppermint help control food cravings, while bergamot oil can enhance your concentration.
