Although dogs’ paw pads are typically tough enough to dispense with footwear, shoes designed specifically for canines may help pups in some instances. Dog shoes may be beneficial when canines need to navigate very hot or cold surfaces. For example, summer sidewalks or snow and ice may be instances where dog shoes can help protect canines. Recently, one dog named Ethel was struggling with itchy paws after her walks. So, a veterinarian recommended her human try out shoes to protect the pup’s sensitive feet. Ethel’s reaction to the dog shoes quickly went viral on the social media platform TikTok.

In a video posted to the account @meganambxr, Ethel can be seen trying out her new dog shoes for the first time. The fluffy white pup is clearly not convinced that her fashionable new footwear is a good idea. After taking a few tentative steps, she appears to try to shake the dog shoes off. Then, Ethel kicks her hind legs in the air, walking on her front paws. Text overlay on the video reads, “The vet suggested that Ethel wears boots on her walks because she’s been getting itchy feet……I think it’s safe to say that she’s not a fan”.

Viewers loved the video and even had some useful advice. TikTok user, Really, said, “You could try sock training. Get infant socks and let her wear them. They are less constricted than work up to the boots.” Other viewers simply found the video amusing. User unschmoe wrote, “She went into two wheel drive”. The video racked up over 719,000 likes on TikTok.
