The UK government has pledged to ban disposable vapes to tackle the surge in vaping among young people and protect children’s health. Ministers also promised they would introduce new measures to prevent vapes being marketed at children and crack down on sales to the underaged.

The changes, which are expected to apply to the whole UK, were announced in the government’s response to its recent consultation on smoking and vaping.1 The government also confirmed its commitment to ban the sale of tobacco products to anyone born on or after 1 January 2009, in an attempt to create the first “smoke-free” generation.2
